Periodontal Disease

In the United States of America, 4 out of 5 people have some form of gum disease and they do not even know it! Most people are not aware of it because it is a disease that usually goes painless in the early/mid stages.

There is no creative way of saying this, but periodontal disease (disease “around the tooth”) will cause premature tooth loss, generalized inflammation in the mouth, and overall discomfort with everyday functions, such as talking, eating, brushing, etc.

Besides in the mouth, periodontal disease is also correlated with heart disease, diabetes, low term birth weight, and digestive problems.

There are some unfortunate folks who are genetically predisposed to gum disease, so Dr Kevin Chang routinely asks if your mother/father, grandparents, or siblings have any history of gum disease.

Of course, routine dental visits, healthy diets and good daily oral hygiene habits will combat any form of periodontal disease! We are here to win!
